What is Positively Single?
-
something to do Friday night to relax and unwind
-
a friendly place to meet old friends and make new ones
-
safe—it’s not a dating service
-
an inter-denominational Christian singles
group
Do I have to be a Christian?
No. We do pray and talk about Jesus, but that’s not all we do.
So, what do you do?
We have a variety of programs and always some time to just hang out with each
other. Sometimes we have speakers, music groups or bands, games and videos, and sometimes parties or special themes.
Who comes?
-
single, divorced, separated*, widowed and never married women
and men
- people of all different occupations
and education levels—You are important, not what you do
-
mostly Christians and some who are trying to figure out what
this Christianity thing is all about
*We welcome you to fellowship with us if you are only separated, but we do ask that you make your marriage status
clear to anyone you meet in the group.
Will
I meet someone special?
We’re all special! God made each of us unique. We’re here to just
make friends and enjoy life, to encourage and help each other. If you meet Mr/Ms “Right’— great—but
that’s not the purpose. (actually quite a few couples have met and married)
How
much does it cost?
Nothing! We have no dues or fees. We ask that you bring a snack or soft drinks
to share, if possible. And if you can lend a hand with clean-up that would be great.
How do people dress?
Casual and comfortable or whatever you wore to work if you don’t have
time to change. It doesn’t matter. Come as you are.
Can
I bring my kids?
Sorry, not to the Friday night meetings. This time is just for us grown-ups.
Besides, Frederick Church of the Brethren, who so graciously allows us to use their building at no cost, has insurance concerns
about children being present. Occasionally there are unusual circumstances when someone has to bring youngsters. In such emergencies
they must be under close supervision of their parent.
Do I have
to join anything?
No. We don't really have a "membership".
Folks pretty much just come as it suits their schedules. We do have a Leadership Team which plans the activities and programs.
Tell me again, when
is it?
Every Friday night (except Good Friday). Fellowship starts at 7:30 and programs at 8. We close down about 10-10:30.
But many go out to eat afterwards so they can continue to fellowship.
Do you ever meet any other time?
Oh yes! About two or three times a month we have other
activities on Saturday or Sunday, such as picnics, bowling, movies. Many of these are family-oriented, and kids are welcome.
How will I know
what the program is or when other things are planned?
Pick up a current newsletter announcing the programs
and activities at at the Friday night gathering. Local newspapers also list the weekly programs. You can check this website.
